Bowing Fundamentals: An Online Workshop for Bassists

$50.00

This is a 2-hour online workshop (taking place April 25, 2026 from 12-2pm CDT) for all levels from complete beginners to intermediate/advanced pizz players who have little experience with the bow, or even for folks with some bowing experience who want to dig deeper.

My bowing philosophy is organic: get out of the way and guide the bow back and forth. Sounds simple, but getting comfortable with a no-frills, natural style of bowing will allow you the foundation to build nuance and finesse into your playing.

In this workshop, I will guide you through the fundamentals of how I approach bowing, including the body mechanics involved, bow hold, hair usage, placement, getting smooth bow changes, developing a beautiful legato stroke, rosin choice, and string choice. I will also give you strategies for practicing these techniques, especially through improvisation exercises that will allow you to actually make music at the same time. There will be lots of demonstrations, and lots of time for questions.

The cost for this 2-hour workshop is $50/person, and there are 10 spots available. More information and a link to access the class will be sent after registration.

I hope you will join us!
